Methodological Assurance

The final component of the framework is methodological assurance. A Correspondence Measurement result should carry a validation status and claim permission. Validity is not universal. It depends on construct, object, level, time, evidence, procedure, interpretation, and use. Reliability is necessary for many uses but not sufficient for validity. Traceability enables review but does not prove truth. Reproducibility supports reconstruction but does not establish construct validity. Coverage qualifies warrant but does not become correspondence value. Confidence is bounded warranted belief, not AI model confidence.

The ladder shows bounded methodological maturity; it does not imply that all measures progress to benchmark, ranking, predictive, causal, or high-stakes claims.

The assurance framework distinguishes validation units. Construct definitions, dimensions, operationalizations, evidence requirements, observation methods, inference models, metric specifications, metric executions, indicators, profiles, temporal comparisons, cross-level inferences, aggregation rules, composite indices, interpretations, and use cases each require different evidence. Validation evidence for one unit does not automatically transfer to another. A reliable extraction method does not validate an indicator. A validated local metric does not validate an organization-level aggregate. A conceptually justified profile does not validate a benchmark.

The framework also defines claim permissions. Conceptual claims can be made when construct logic and literature support are adequate. Bounded descriptive claims require governed evidence and procedure. Comparative claims require comparability and invariance evidence. Longitudinal claims require temporal comparability and procedure-version control. Assessment-support claims require explicit downstream criteria. Benchmark, predictive, causal, and high-stakes claims require separate empirical validation and governance.

Contestability is therefore part of measurement. Organizational actors must be able to challenge evidence, observations, inference rules, procedures, results, interpretations, and uses. This is not merely an ethical add-on; it is methodological infrastructure. If a measurement result cannot be traced and contested, its validity cannot be responsibly reviewed.
